lining where we were excited about the season — we had a great season , we had a season in which thousands of teams would have killed for , but losing in that game it hurt .”
As year two under the Brock head coach begins , expectations remain the same — championship or bust for the season .
The crowd atmosphere plays a big part in the teams success regardless of the sport .
“ There is a lot of excitement ,” Mathis said . “ Brock football is a unique place , it has the true small town feel to it . The crowds are constantly giant , the stands are full no matter what sports it is in , but going into football we are excited this season . We are excited about the guys we have coming back , we are excited about having a year under our belt .”
This summer and spring are different for the head coach , who spent most of this time last year installing everything . Now , the Eagles are able to focus on “ dialing stuff in ,” including any personnel changes .
“ Year to year , I feel like we do a good job of adjusting to our personnel with what we do ,” Mathis said . “ There is always that nervousness going in , but I definitely feel more confident just because of what we have established already . We won ’ t have to change offenses and defenses like we did the previous year so having all of that established makes your confidence higher .
“ But just being a football coach , most of us are worst-case-scenario kind of guys all of the time . We are trying to make sure that we aren ’ t outworked or our own worst enemies . It just comes with the game .”
