“ We had over 100 high school kids and another 100 junior high kids everyday ,” the head coach said of July and August . “ Our community and our board gave us a brand new weight room , so our kids are excited about being in there and so all of it ties together .”
Going into this season , Sims and his staff will be utilizing the experience some of the younger players gained at the lower levels in recent years .
“ It is better for those guys to be down and play ,” Sims said . “ We develop those guys . That ’ s why my whole staff , we coach freshmen through varsity . We don ’ t have a freshmen staff , we coach it all .”
Doing so gives the coaches a look at — and chance to work with — every athlete , from the freshman level on up , ensuring when a senior leaves , an underclassman is ready to replace . It ’ s something Sims will look to take advantage of after having to do without in his rookie year .
“ But it will get easier and easier to where I can tell you who my starting tight end is going to be two years from now ,” he said .
Ryan Clark returns to lead the Kangaroo offense with an encore of his offensive MVP season , with strong prospects backing him up at the quarterback position . “ We had a good successful JV season , so that JV quarterback is back . We are trying to find a spot for him so he doesn ’ t stay on the sidelines ,” Sims said . “ I feel really good where we are at quarterback-wise . It takes time for he and I to understand that I call the plays . It ’ s getting to the point now that [ Ryan ] knows what I am thinking . It is definite-
