FROM THE SIDELINES

When I arrived in town from Virginia , I heard nothing but good things about the football programs in Parker and Palo Pinto County . I definitely came at a good time .

There are several teams this season under new leadership in Azle Christian and Community Christian . Former ACS head coach Gary Rushing moves over to lead the Warriors , while his former defensive coordinator , Clayton Saunders , uses everything he learned under his mentor to continue high expectations with the crusaders at Azle Christian .

Trinity Christian and Perrin-Whitt have been busy learning under their new head coaches , as the Eagles look forward to a fresh start on a field of their own . The Pirates have already hit the ground running under Jay Johnson .

Great expectations lie ahead for Mineral Wells , Brock and Weatherford , who look to improve under second-year head coaches in Seth Hobbs , Billy Mathis and Aubrey Sims .

Millsap and Peaster both made the postseason last year , but it ’ s clear they are hungry for more .

The Strawn Greyhounds are ramped up and ready to repeat as state champions , while another team that surprised everyone following their move to a higher division , Weatherford Christian , is aiming for more .

Gordon looks to thrive in its new division , while the Santo Wildcats usher in a new leader on offense .

The powerhouse Aledo Bearcats look to retake their thrown and earn an 11th state title , while Springtown looks to rebuild with key pieces from last season .

There ’ s nothing quite like high school football in Texas , and I look forward to this season and bringing the coverage to you .
