The Briscoe Museum of Western Art in
San Antonio opened its doors in October.
The new, spacious museum features
American Indian, colonial Spanish,
Mexican, and other art of the American
West. The opening celebrations included
Comanche brothers Tim and Calvert
Nevaquaya painting a tipi.
The 2013 Best of Show winner of
SWAIA’s Indian Market is Jackie Bread
(Blackfeet). The best of classification
winners are Earl Plummer (Navajo) for
jewelry, Troy Jackson (Cherokee Nation)
for pottery, Norma Howard (Choctaw
Nation of Oklahoma) for painting,
Bryant Honyouti (Hopi) for wooden
Pueblo figurative sculpture, Larry Yazzie
