What is first aid? : First aid is emergency treatment that is administered to an injured/sick person before professional medical care is thankfully available. The importance of first aid: F irst aid can make the difference between life and death. Every year thousands of people die or are seriously injured in accidents. Many of these deaths could be prevented if first aid is given at the scene of the accident before emergency services arrive. Being able to do effective first aid does not simply involve having a first aid kit on hand, and you have to decide whether the injury or illness can be treated with what might be called simple first aid. First aid does not eliminate the need for a hospital. As soon as any injuries are under control, the victim should be checked by a doctor. This will ensure that no further damage is caused in the future
