UNITED FEDERATION OF CHIEF OFFICERS LOCAL 3
CHIEF OFFICERS ACROSS THE ENTIRE
FIRE SERVICE HAVE TO DISPLAY A
WIDE SKILL SET TO SUCCEED.
Nowhere is this dynamic more acute than
here at County Fire, where, particularly
at the level of battalion chief, our
command leaders occupy a pivotal role
in ensuring not only that fires go out,
and that firefighters go home safely,
but that the details of our every day
operations—from supply orders to
training schedules—run smoothly.
Battalion Chief Josh Sprague conducts
an “after action review” after a two-
alarm fire in the community of El Mirage.
Local 935 believes AARs should be con-
ducted by the incident commander after
notable incidents. They give the compa-
ny officers and incident commanders a
chance to discuss tactics and strategy
on the incident and lessons learned from
successes and failures, with the primary
goal of improving future performance.
