FIREWIRE Magazine Winter 2019: Celebrating 5 Years | Page 26

LETTERS FROM THE EDITORS: DAVID PINGREE To Our Readers, I’ve been a contributing member here at the FIREWIRE for sev- eral years now and it’s been a lot of fun. After working with a motorcycle publication for years prior to joining the fire service, I find the differences in culture, topics and interests to be in- triguing. I also really enjoy the group of individuals I get to work with on these projects, even though we are scattered through- out the different divisions of County Fire. I guess what I mean is that I enjoy the text threads we are all included on and the jabs and jokes that go back and forth. But that text thread brings us together and makes us all feel like we are a part of something, which is what FIREWIRE is all about for me. With our massive geographical footprint, our department can seem like several smaller, individual departments at times. FIREWIRE is meant to keep the membership up-to-speed with whats happening in other divisions and it gives us a chance to stay connected with our brothers and sisters from around the county, sharing ideas, thoughts, and experiences. The staff teasing Ryan Beckers for his Oxford comma usage [editor’s note: quite the opposite: Ryan never uses this heathen punctuation] is just a bonus and it feels a lot like the chatter around the coffee table in the morning. Sorry, I know that sounds like nerdy editor humor, and that’s because it is. It’s been a fun ride so far and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. See you on the big one… or on a man down call in Division 2. David Pingree Assistant Editor 26 FIREWIRE • Five Year Anniversary Winter 2019 • FIREWIRE 27
