Firefighter/Paramedic Nick Marsh meets the county vision by educating youth in the community of Lake Arrowhead. Local 935 is proud to support Rim Special Athletes. On July 31 this group was made honorary firefighters for a day aboard Fire Boat 92. HOT TOPICS FROM ACROSS THE MOUNTAIN Our members serving in the mountain communities routinely deal with over-the-side traffic-related rescues as well as incidents in the back country that require the assistance of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Air Rescue. 24 FIREWIRE • Summer 2018 A rollover traffic collision on Hwy 18 resulted in only minor injuries thanks to the occupants wearing seatbelts. • The after-hours staffing desk has moved to Station 94! Please use the email for all questions and non-urgent matters. • The new Boat 92 had an official christening ceremony with the Arrowhead Lake Association (ALA). County Fire’s statement touted the new resource and its and state- of-the-art technologies, bringing a new level of rescue capabilities for lake emergencies. • The boat was soon deployed on Lake Arrowhead for the 4th of July holiday. Crews patrolled the lake, keeping lake- faring revelers safe. They also provided fire watch during the ALA’s annual fireworks show. • To celebrate National Night Out, Medic Engines 25 and 92 spent the evening of August 7 in Crestline. Crews cooked free hot dogs and engaged with the mountain locals, answering questions on public safety and enjoying the evening along with them. • Units from Lake Arrowhead deployed to assist in the recent wildfires in Northern California. Units started on the Cranston Fire in Idyllwild and were redeployed to the Carr fire in Redding. Captain Don Whitesell explains exit drills in the home, or EDITH, during a recent safety presentation at a school in Lake Arrowhead. Recently, city of Hesperia Councilwoman Rebekah Swanson was given a tour of BT 92. It is important that all members of our governing bodies understand the capabilities of County Fire and our regional service delivery capabilities. On July 31st our members hosted a group a very talented individuals from Rim Special Athletes aboard Boat 92. This group was made honorary firefighters for the day and also received a donation from Local 935 to support their future needs. Local 935 members Carlos Corletto, Don Day and Mike Callaway did an excellent job showing this group the ropes and answering questions about Fire Boat 92. 3 DIVISION news Summer 2018 • FIREWIRE 25
