Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Schuessler educating youth in the city of San Bernardino. • Assistant Chief Dan Munsey, along with representatives from Local 935, have completed divisional meetings for all shift personnel. This included updates on recent changes in the division, discussion on future apparatus and facility improvements, as well as leadership expectations. • An operational agreement has been negotiated between SBCoFD and San Manuel Fire Department. This agreement is to include allowing SMFD to automatically run medical aids within a portion of the city of San Bernardino, command and control parameters, positions on the Type-3 incident management team, access to SBCoFD reserve apparatus, etc. • Station security upgrades have commenced, including installation of perimeter fencing, razor wire and automatic gates. Completed stations include 222, 229, 224, 226 and 227. Station 221’s project is ongoing. • San Bernardino International Airport is now staffed full time with a BLS captain and engineer. They will be responsible for emergency calls on the airport, assisting with training at the ARFF center and providing standby for the USFS tanker base. A recent wildland fire near Glen Helen camp brought a multi-agency response, including crews from Cal-Fire and the U.S. Forest Service. 14 FIREWIRE • Summer 2018 • As part of its annual national run survey, Medic Engine 224 has been recognized by Firehouse magazine as the fifth-busiest engine company in the nation.
