COUNTY FIRE SUPPORTS 2016 TRI-COMMUNITY GREEN WASTE EVENT
In cooperation with the Wrightwood Fire Safe Council the 2016 Green Waste Event was held the week of June 11 t support the Tri-Communities of Wrightwood , Phelan and Pinon Hills . SBCoFD firefighters would like to remind residents that now is the time to clear your property of dead and downed vegetation , as proper defensible space will afford your property every opportunity to survive a wildfire and allow firefighters to safely defend your home when one strikes . NEW FIRE ENGINE PLACED INTO SERVICE IN PHELAN
Recently , San Bernardino County Fire placed into a service a 2015 Kovatch Mobile Equipment ( KME ) type 1 fire engine in the community of Phelan . This new engine replaces a KME rig that was 16 years old and had accrued 294,000 miles . The new Medic Engine 10 features a 1500 gallon per minute pump and carries 500 gallons of water .
One of the many additional features of this fire engine includes a backup and sideview camera that will assist the operator when backing or changing lanes . As with County Fire rigs across the division , an Apple iPad has also been installed to give the company officer the ability to use technology to make real time decisions . A full set of hydraulic rescue tools ( Jaws of Life ), as well as a compliment of rope rescue gear and a floatable pump that can be used to obtain water from static water sources are also part of the rig ’ s tools .
WILDFIRE AND DISASTER AWARENESS DAY
In the community of Wrightwood , many joined your local SBCoFD firefighters along with our cooperators , Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog . Phelan Fire Explorer Post 351 served hot dogs as part of a fundraiser BBQ . All proceeds benefited the Wrightwood Fire Safe Council and the Phelan Fire Explorer Post . We were happy to see all that attended .
