DAVE BENFIELD DIVISION CHIEF LABOR REP. WAYNE THOMPSON BY: ANDREW WEBER By: Bob Mack This Memorial Day, Local 935 and Chili’s restaurant in Victorville conducted another successful tip-a-firefighter fundraiser event in support of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Local 935 felt it was important to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the men and women who continue to deal with injuries suffered while protecting our freedom. WWP serves veterans and service members (and their families) who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness or wound related to service in any of the military conflicts begun on or after Sept. 11, 2001. Among the many reasons this date is significant, many warriors note a sense of duty to volunteer for the military following tragic events such as what occurred on that date. As such, Sept. 11 served as a stimulus for Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and New Dawn. Operation Iraqi Freedom refers to military operations in Iraq that began March 19, 2003, and officially ended August 31, 2010. Operation Enduring Freedom refers to combat operations in Afghanistan and other regions in support of the Global War on Terror. Operation New Dawn refers to the conclusion of operations in Iraq beginning September 1, 2010, and ending December 15, 2011. Local 935 would like to thank all the patrons of Chili’s in Victorville who took the time to support the Wounded Warrior Project. Our labor organization stands by the promise that we shall never forget. 28 FIREWIRE | VOL.3 SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS On May 21 County Fire units from Station 41 along with BC137 responded to a reported tractor rollover on the ridge south of Acoma Trail and Golden Bee Drive near the National Park Boundary.
