11 news DIVISION By Jarrod Dowden “Facta non Verba” – deeds, not words “Usque ad finem” – to the end APRIL 2018 One of the many reasons the Old Cajon Crew is successful is due to the leader- ship of these two Local 935 members. Crew Superintendent Matt Topoleski and Crew Boss Travis Van Hulten. As the seasonal grasses grow, Old Cajon is gearing up for whatever 2018 brings. This April we welcome the return of our seasonal fire suppression aides, along with staff orientation and critical training for our crew members. Falling hazard trees is one of the many specialties offered by certain members of this crew. Annual crew typing has been completed and Old Cajon is awaiting another busy fire season. The crew recently took part in The Hot Shot Up Volleyball Tournament in Ventura, with the crew posting a 5-2 record for the event. Other crews in attendance included the Del Rosa, Valyermo, Little Tujunga and Dalton Hotshots, the crew from H-534, as well as other mixed teams affiliated with the U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County and City Fire Departments. All funds raised benefit the victims of the 2017 fire season and U.S. Hotshot Association. We also earned first place in our division for Military/Public Service at the Reebok Ragnar So-Cal, a 184-mile relay from Huntington Beach to San Diego, clocking in with a time of 25 hours, 45 minutes and 51 seconds. The 12-person relay team comprised mostly members from Old Cajon and Kern County Fire Department. FSA Mike Kordich continues with his physical therapy and his visits to the wound specialist. We anxiously await Mike’s recovery and his return to duty. Follow us on Instagram @local935 Jarrod Dowden is a squad boss FSA III for the Old Cajon crew at Camp 6 Thank you for your support!
