1 DIVISION news By Ryan Beckers Lower Swatara Volunteer F.D. hosted Southern California Incident Managemnt Team 2, including Local 935 member Kyle Hauducoeur during the 2017 hurricanes. The team was staged in Harrisburg, Penn., on the way to Puerto Rico and could not fly into San Juan until seven days of food and water was obtained. Firefighter/Paramedic Craig Lynde was awarded firefighter of the year, and the crew of Captain Tony Siciliano, Engineer Mike Brimmer, Firefighter/Paramedic Justin Mollicone and Firefighters Cody Nelson and Nate Oden were honored for saving a pet during a house fire. Captain Bob Kittleman received a meritorious service award. Meanwhile, those who responded to a swift water rescue call in Lytle Creek last year were honored, including Mike Murphy, Bryan James, Bill Rozinka, Anthony Pena, Brian Agrelius, Jeremy Hanson, Chris Williams, Ted Alten, Joe Chaplinski, Robert Stine, Craig Lynde, Andrew Anderson and Jose Cruz. • Local 935 donated $5000 to sponsor a brick for the veterans memorial wall to be built next to the Miller Park Amphitheater, adjacent to Fire Station 71 in Fontana. The donation qualifies our organization as a “Gold” level sponsor. • Numerous public events have taken place, including use of the Local 935 grill trailer. The union sponsored, for example, dinner at Comm Center in Rialto as a thank you during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week for the service provided by those folks on a daily basis. • Assistant Chief Jeff Birchfield visited Washington, D.C., with Mayor Acquanetta Warren and others from Fontana, looking to secure grant funding for several projects. He also met with the Health and Wellness Committee regarding measures meant to reduce our cancer risk, including a second set of turnouts and extractors for each station. These and other measures are set to become reality, likely after July. Local 935 congratulates George Tom on his recent promotion to the rank of engineer. The city of Fontana has voted to purchase the land for future Station 80, at the corner of Highland and Cherry Avenues. Meanwhile, Station 81 already has a future site planned, just west of Sierra on Casa Grande in the north part of town. Firefighter/Paramedic Carson Anderson meets the county vision by participating in a school program in Fontana. Local 935 members support a recent community event at the Journey Community Church in Fontana. Engineer Brad McCauley is proud to support Dr. Seuss Read Across America in our local schools.
