11 DIVISION news Covering the Training and Safety Division including Aviation, Wildland and EMS By Ryan Beckers, Local 935 VP Tony Siciliano (with contributions from Assistant Chief Dan Munsey) LABOR REP: TONY SICIALIANO ASSISTANT CHIEF: PENDING HOT TOPICS FROM SPECIAL OPERATIONS Chief Munsey’s new leadership in Division 11 has created a great deal of movement for Local 935 members and overhead staff alike over the past quarter. This edition of Hot Topics features a roundup of that movement as summarized by chief himself. First, a look at those coming into the division: Battalion Chief Bob Evans will be taking over for departing chief Dave Meddles to oversee Special Operations; his skill set bodes well for our camp operations, per Chief Munsey…Captain Dan Nafzgar has assumed a training officer role; he will focus on probationary employee training as well as larger multi-company/agency drills… Captain Kellie Hoverman spent a month working on projects such as recruitment diversity and the division website…Captain Matt Anderson permanently joins D11 in a second field training officer (FTO) spot made available as part of a minor reorganization; he will continue as Tower coordinator…Engineer Mike Demoff steps in on the County Sheriff/Fire air rescue program. The SBRETC, or ARFF center, will be under new daily management from Captains Chris Bowden and Alan Duggan as Fire Station 233 has been “transferred” to Division 11… The recent changes also involve some outgoing folks who have made County Fire better with their service within Special Operations and Training: Firefighter/Paramedic Robert Stine has transitioned out of the training section after many years of service. From technical rescue training to his efforts with Target Solutions and of course Tablet Command to name a few areas of effort, Stiney’s time at training moved the needle for our department; thanks for your service, Robert…Engineer Robert Edie has left the ARFF program, with the 44 FIREWIRE • FALL 2019
