28 FIREWIRE • FALL 2019
A lot of news to catch up on with the early
August implementation of Medic Brush
Patrol 18 in Havasu Landing…
• On the first day MBP 18 was placed in service, there
was a response to a boat fire which included three
burn victims, including two pediatric patients.
• The crews have received approval for purchase of
an AutoPulse device; the request came following a
lengthy ETA for the ambulance on a cardiac arrest
incident.
• Station accommodations are a work in progress;
good news is that the evening living quarters on
San Bernardino County Sheriff property are com-
fortable. Station 18, meanwhile is owned not by
the county but by the Fire Belles citizen responder
group who formerly staffed the station. They do
have funds and are coordinating with Captain Mike
Murphy to work on improvements.
• The station is scheduled to receive a used fire/
rescue boat from the Mountain Division.
• By March of next year all personnel assigned to
work at Stations 32 and 18 will need boat ops certi-
fication. Another class was held in October to help
pad the roster of those available.
