FROM SPECIAL OPERATIONS
• From the training division, our next truck operations
academy has been postponed to a later date in 2019.
• Meanwhile, the annual USAR and Hazmat competency
testing has been completed, with roughly 90 technical
rescue names certified and over 60 in the Hazmat ranks.
These individuals are now able to apply to specialty
station seats and to serve in those spots for constant
staffing requirements.
• Tower 11 preparations are under way, with expected
start sometime next year. The final number of slots is in
discussion. Meanwhile, promotional engineer’s testing
was recently completed, while battalion chief and
captain tests will take place in December and January,
respectively.

Several members of Old Cajon Crew 6 supported the recent Big
Bear Hot Shot Golf Tournament. All proceeds benefit the Gabriel
Pomona Foundation, a scholarship fund which honors the legacy
of a Big Bear Hotshots crew member who died in 2011.

In the camps, Crews 15 and 6 were both busy with
November’s wind event, and were staffed to capacity
as such. This level of staffing proved beneficial to the
department and community, as several local fires were
contained without major destruction partly with their
quick arrival. After Thanksgiving the crews will once
again transition to their winter staffing and schedule
configurations.
Crew 6 always makes the community its priority.
Likewise, our dozer crews were constantly-staffed during
the wind event, and proved to have game-changing effects
when deployed. Local 935 stresses the need to find
solutions to make this a permanently staffed resource.
Crew 6 stops in for a photo op at Mammoth Mountain
while returning from the Ferguson Fire this past summer.
