The expected loss of the city of Victorville in April is having
ripple effects throughout the membership and department
operations. In Adelanto, preparations are underway to
get the station ready to house an addition battalion chief
displaced by the loss of contract. Apparatus will be moved
as well, with finalization of exactly what goes where yet to
be determined. •
Meanwhile, Local 935-backed city council candidate Eric
Negrete lost his seat in November’s election. In addition,
candidate Deborah Jones, a proponent of a city-run
department, also won a seat. She has stated a desire to
reevaluate costs as the city’s new department progresses. •
At Spring Valley Lake Station 22, an OES Hazmat rig will soon be
delivered, replacing the older County Fire apparatus currently
in service, which will be transferred to Division 4 in the south
desert. Our crews should be operating the OES by January 2019.
Eventually, as Victorville closes, the existing medic squad at
Station 311 and its two personnel are expected to be moved to
22’s as well.
Our members recently provided a fire extinguisher safety
course in the city of Victorville.
Local community events over the past quarter included our
inclusion in the Veteran’s Day parade in Victorville and Chili’s
“Tip a Fireman” fundraiser.
Local 935 is always proud to have the support
of the Helpful Honda People
Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Anderson “3” meeting the county
vision while educating local Girl Scouts in the city of Victorville.
