The old Crest Forest Fire Station 29, located near the Lake
Gregory Dam, is being converted from a mechanic’s shop
to a crew’s quarters. The space will be occupied during
times of additional staffing such as wind events or other
emergencies. Meanwhile, part of the former apparatus bay
will be converted into a museum honoring the old CFFPD,
including an antique engine.
• Station 25 and 94 have both gotten a mini-makeover
with each getting a new coat of exterior paint. The color
scheme is meant to match the existing one for Station
91 at Lake Arrowhead Village. The goal is to bring all the
mountain stations into a more standardized look.
• Department staff is looking at options to replace or rebuild
Fire Station 96 in Fawnskin. The goal will be to get the
house closer to lake and rescue boat access; however, it
is possible the existing property will be re-used for a new
building. Meanwhile the station hopes to receive its new
boat sometime in 2019; one of the features will be the
ability to navigate through and clear a certain amount of
surface ice.

Local 935 members are working with the
department on finalizing requirements for
rescue boat operations, to include standardized
personnel qualifications and certification task
books up to state standards. This is a long
process as it requires coordination between the
boat companies which operate on not only our
mountain lakes, but also the Colorado river, as
well as with the San Bernardino County Sheriff.
