In September Local 935 attended the
rededication of Station 78 to former Fire
Chief R.J. Keen. The 935 BBQ trailer was
there to feed everyone in attendance.
Fontana City Council Member John Roberts
was one of our honored guests. R.J. Keen is
considered the “Father of County Fire.”
On September 29 the stellar chefs of Local
935 served up first-place stuff in the pork
ribs category at the Chillin’ and Grillin’
community gathering Sept. 29 in Fontana.
Sponsored by the Fontana Police Officers
Association, the City of Fontana and the
North Fontana Community Development
group, the event was held to promote
relationships between first responders and
the community. No doubt what put our
entry over the top was the spicy dry rub
masterminded by Firefighter/Paramedic Nick
Harkins…if it’s red it’s right, right Nick?
New apparatus are still in the works for
the division, including the ME74, which is in
construction at KME, while MS73 is in pre-
construction stages.
• While the entire department will soon be
getting spare turnouts, the city of Fontana
has graciously agreed to sponsor the sets
being delivered within their city. Local 935
appreciates the support.
• The Station Station 72 kitchen remodel
is completed, while the re-do for the
one at Station 12 in San Antonio Heights
should be underway as this edition of the
magazine goes to press. Upland Station
161’s kitchen remodel is now complete.
