Local 935 thanks the city of Upland for honoring first responders on the anniversary of 9/11. FROM THE WEST VALLEY • • • Engineer Bryon Kuhn and others have been constructing new props at Station 78 for the upcoming truck operations academy. 14 FIREWIRE • FALL 2018 In September Local 935 attended the rededication of Station 78 to former Fire Chief R.J. Keen. The 935 BBQ trailer was there to feed everyone in attendance. Fontana City Council Member John Roberts was one of our honored guests. R.J. Keen is considered the “Father of County Fire.” On September 29 the stellar chefs of Local 935 served up first-place stuff in the pork ribs category at the Chillin’ and Grillin’ community gathering Sept. 29 in Fontana. Sponsored by the Fontana Police Officers Association, the City of Fontana and the North Fontana Community Development group, the event was held to promote relationships between first responders and the community. No doubt what put our entry over the top was the spicy dry rub masterminded by Firefighter/Paramedic Nick Harkins…if it’s red it’s right, right Nick? New apparatus are still in the works for the division, including the ME74, which is in construction at KME, while MS73 is in pre- construction stages. • While the entire department will soon be getting spare turnouts, the city of Fontana has graciously agreed to sponsor the sets being delivered within their city. Local 935 appreciates the support. • The Station Station 72 kitchen remodel is completed, while the re-do for the one at Station 12 in San Antonio Heights should be underway as this edition of the magazine goes to press. Upland Station 161’s kitchen remodel is now complete. Firefighter/Paramedic Craig Lynde supports the 2018 Spark of Love. An unlikely parking spot for a small plane on the Interstate 210 in the city of Upland. HOT TOPICS The annual Spark of Love ty drive is underway across all divisions of County Fire. Dozer 2 and Cal Fire Dozer 3540 engage a recent wildland fire near the community of Devore.
