999 Memorial
The Prime Minister, Theresa May has given
her backing to the National Emergency
Services Memorial and the Official
Emergency Services Day campaign,
launched at The Emergency Services
show at the NEC, Birmingham on 20th
September 2017.
The National Emergency Services
Memorial is raising £2 Million to build the
first memorial dedicated to over 5,000
emergency personnel who have lost their
lives, and to give thanks to the more than
250,000 people working in the services
today.
Fire service
proudly presents
innovative cadets
programme
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has teamed up with
Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (MET) to launch a
brand new fire cadets programme.
The 38-week programme in which 16 students from the MET’s
Uniformed Services course will learn all about the fire service;
from the roles and responsibilities of individuals within WSFRS to
practising hose drills, working at height, and using the special
protective clothing and equipment firefighters rely on every
day.
The cadets will also undertake HeartStart first aid training,
which equips individuals with the invaluable skills to deal with
cardiac arrest, blood loss and choking.
Previous cadet programmes have been run solely by the
fire service, however collaborating with the MET allows for a
centralised, streamlined approach to a programme we hope
will benefit many young people for many years to come.
The Prime Minister, said: “I’m proud to
support this National Memorial and
the creation of an official emergency
services day. The men and women
of our emergency services are there
for us when we need them most. As a
nation, we are indebted to them for
their courage and their sacrifice and it
is absolutely right that we should honour
their incredible service in this very
special way.”
The charity is backed by former
Prime Ministers, David Cameron,
Gordon Brown and Tony Blair, all living
former Deputy Prime Ministers, Home
Secretaries and Leaders of the main
political parties, and leaders from across
the emergency services.
The Founder of the charity, Tom Scholes-
Fogg, said: “I am delighted to have
the support of our Prime Minister, her
predecessors and so many significant
people. The NESM and the Official
999 Day is a great opportunity for us
to honour the men and women who
have given so much in the name of
public duty. The memorial will be an
opportunity for the country to give
thanks, remember and honour their
service and sacrifice.”
