VOLVO TRUCKS FIRED UP AT
THE EMERGENCY SERVICES SHOW
The spotlight on Volvo Trucks’
stand at this year’s Emergency
Services Show Birmingham’s NEC
was a brand-new Appliance,
based on a Volvo FL 16-tonne
chassis.
The Volvo FL816 on display was
in the livery of West Midlands Fire
Service, a long-standing user of
Volvo Appliances, and a model
which has played a key role in the
fleet for some years.
The Appliance is powered by
Volvo’s Euro-6 compliant D8K280
engine rated at 280hp (206Kw).
Maximum power is developed

at 2,100 r/min and the D8K280
engine delivers maximum torque of
1,050Nm between 950-1,700rpm.
The engine is matched to an
Allison 3000 series fully automatic
transmission with integral
retarder and the bodywork was
manufactured by John Dennis
Coach works Ltd, Guildford, Surrey.
This high-spec’ truck also comes
complete with a 5-6 person Volvo
crew cab, Electronic Braking
System with ASB, ASR, Anti-Bandit
Glass, Stability Control and features
bodywork by John Dennis Coach
Builders.
This Volvo FL complements the
Volvo FE range of crew-cabbed
appliances, which is becoming
an increasingly popular due to
their versatility when specified as
a water tanker or aerial platform
in 4x2 or 6x2 configurations.
With 250hp, 280hp, or 320hp
Euro-6 engine options, all vehicles
can be ordered with the choice
of the Volvo I-Shift automated
or Allison fully automated
gearboxes for optimum drivability
in busy traffic.
