Clapperboad Awards Ceremony with actors Tony Maudsley and Alex Fletcher with students from The Academy of St Francis of Assisi
I also started the Clapperboard
Annual Award Ceremony to
premiere the films and celebrate
the work of young people,
which had a fantastic response.
Clapperboard won Liverpool
Echo Pride of Merseyside Award
for Best Community Event in
2014, when we held the event at
Hope Uni’s fabulous Capstone
Theatre and 2015’s Ceremony
was our 10th Awards anniversary.
When I refer to ‘we’.. also at
Clapperboard’s helm is Colin
Farrell, Youth Worker and Business &
Creative Development Manager,
who has kept Clapperboard
afloat by successfully applying for
funding as well as developing new
partnerships, delivering the creative
workshops with our participants
and producing the end result, a
short film documentary or drama.
In 2009 we introduced a new
initiative, Clapperboard Presents...,
a series of high profile event
screenings with the creative talent
(actors, directors, producers)
in attendance where they
participate in a Question and
Answer session with the audience.
These special fundraising events in
partnership with Picturehouse at
FACT, help to raise much needed
funding to continue our projects.
The first was a screening of Life
is Sweet, launched by award
winning actor Alison Steadman
OBE (Abigail’s Party, Pride and
Prejudice, Fat Friends, Gavin and
Stacey) which received much
publicity. Many more screenings
followed supported by acclaimed
industry talent actors such as;
Stephen Graham (Snatch , This
is England, Boardwalk Empire,
Gangs of New York, Pirates of the
Caribbean), Jimmy McGovern
(Dockers , Hillsborough , The Street,
Moving On), Willy Russell (Our Day
Out , Shirley Valentine , Blood
Brothers , Educating Rita ).
