Christmas at Durham Cathedral

Christmas is a wonderful time to visit Durham Cathedral, and this year they are offer-ing a special Christmas experience for visitors as part of Durham City Christmas Festi-val!
Also new for 2016 is Open Treasure, the new world-class exhibition experience which is open all year round. With a dynamic rolling programme of exhibitions, there is always something new to see.

Durham Cathedral Choristers at Christmas.
Friday 2 December at 2.30pm Groups will be able to enjoy an exclusive Christmas experience with an afternoon carol concert sung by Durham Cathedral Choristers. Performed in the magnificent Nave of Durham Cathedral, the Choristers will process up the aisle by candlelight and entertain the audience with traditional carols and choral music. There will also be the chance to join in and sing a couple of firm favourites!
Included in the offer is the chance to explore free-flow inside the Cathedral, plus a visit to the Local Producers’ Market held in the Cathedral’ s historic Cloister, part of the Durham City Christmas Festival with a further marquee of crafts and gifts only a few feet away on Palace Green.

Be one of the first to explore Open Treasure, a new world-class exhibition experience at the heart of Durham Cathedral.
Explore Open Treasure, a state-of-the-art visitor attraction located in the most intact surviving set of medieval monastic buildings in the UK. The journey begins in the magnificent fourteenthcentury Monks’ Dormitory with in-teractive exhibits and activities. Continue through the Collections Gallery, with a roll-ing programme of exhibitions, before reaching the Great Kitchen with the stunning octagonal ceiling, home to a spectacular exhibition of church plate and metalwork. Finally, explore the interactive Pilgrimage Gallery and Community Gallery before re-turning to the medieval Cloister via the Covey.
Complete your trip with a visit to the Undercroft Restaurant, where you can sample delicious homemade food, and the Cathedral Shop for a range of gifts and souvenirs. Alternatively book an exclusive catering experience in Prior’ s Hall, originally the me-dieval dining room of the Deanery.
