Reiki as defined by the Oxford English dictionary is:-“ A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’ s body and restore physical and emotional well-being”. A Reiki treatment is performed with the client fully clothed, usually lying on a treatment couch in a peaceful environment. Clients often report that they can’ t remember when they last felt so relaxed which for many is the primary reason for having a Reiki treatment. However, there are many other potential benefits which we have touched on here.
Reiki as a means of managing stress and reducing anxiety. Benefits reported by clients / patients of Practitioner members of the UK Reiki Federation include deep relaxation, promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well-being on all levels. This relaxation brings about a reduction in stress levels which can lead to a host of health benefits, including improved immunity, reduced blood pressure, improved sleep patterns and better ability to heal. Reiki as a means of managing pain Reiki is able to relax muscles which have become tense through chronic neck, shoulder or back pain. Reiki can help reduce the severity and frequency of headaches. Regular Reiki sessions can help to manage chronic pain Reiki to complement medical care. Reiki has been found effective in reducing the side effects of cancer treatment and other regular medical treatments.
