Linthwaite House in the Lake
District offers Complimentary Green Fees
The Lake District’s luxurious Linthwaite
House, part of the Leeu Collection
(www.leeucollection.com), is offering
golfing guests complimentary green
fees at Windermere Golf Club this
summer and early autumn. To qualify,
guests are simply required to book a
dinner, bed and breakfast package
at Linthwaite (except on Saturdays
when a minimum two night stay is
necessary).
While many visitors flock to the Lake
District for its spectacular walking
opportunities, less well known is the
fact that Cumbria is home to almost
40 golf courses nestled amid some
of the most beautiful scenery in
England. Located less than a mile
from Linthwaite, Windermere is rated
one of the top courses in the county
and boasts stunning views of Lake
Windermere and the surrounding fells.
Founded in 1891, the layout has an
excellent pedigree having been
designed by George Lowe who at
the time was the professional at
the celebrated Royal Lytham & St
Annes, a course he also created. In
true moorland style, each hole at
Windermere follows the gently rolling
and rugged character of the local
terrain to create a layout that is both
charming and challenging.
Though not long by today’s standards, this
5,143-yard, par 67 course is still a good test of
golf thanks to a splattering of blind tee shots
and natural hazards such as rocky outcrops,
abundant heather and copses of trees situated
along the fairways.
In addition, there are several other golf
courses within easy reach of Linthwaite,
including the parkland course at Ulverstone
just 15 miles away. This hidden gem with
great views over Morecambe Bay and the
Lakeland fells was redesigned by the famous
golfer and course architect Harry Colt, who
turned it into a more exciting and rewarding
layout.
After 18 holes of golf, Linthwaite, recognised
as one of the best country house hotels in
the Lake District, provides a tranquil haven to
which to retire and relax. Guests might like to
sit, G&T in hand, in the Conservatory with its
breath-taking views over Lake Windermere or
they might wish to enjoy the hotel’s 14 acres
of private grounds, where fishing,
wild swimming in the tarn, walking
or playing croquet are all options.
In the evening, Linthwaite’s awardwinning restaurant serves modern
British cuisine. Listed in Michelin, it
has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes
and in 2015 won both the Lake
District and the Cumbria Life Hotel
Restaurant of the Year. Additionally,
the property itself has been
awarded “Most Excellent Country
House Hotel” status by Conde Nast
Johansen’s; it was also placed in
the top 200 hotels of the UK by the
AA and is graded as a 4 AA Red
Star hotel.
Luxurious accommodation is
provided in 30 individually designed
bedrooms and the hotel prides
itself on its excellent service and
attention to detail. Rates start from
£120 per person sharing a Cosy Room
on a dinner, bed and breakfast
basis; this rate includes a full English
breakfast, four course dinner in the
restaurant and VAT. The value of
the complimentary green fee being
offered per person is £40. Book online
at www.linthwaite.com. Valid till 31
October 2016, this offer cannot be
used in conjunction with any other
promotion.
