GOLF TIPS In this continuing series of golfing tips, Gary Kilmister PGA professional and coach at Porthmadog Golf Club passes on some hints and tips to improve your enjoyment of the game. SPIN YOUR CHIP SHOTS Technique tips 1. Position the ball in the Middle of Your Stance, Make Sure The club shaft is in a vertical position at address. Many amateurs lean the shaft forward which de-lofts the wedge , creating a lower flight with less spin and more run. 2. Make sure you accelerate through impact as you try to return the shaft back to a vertical position as you strike the ball to get used to this action try these two drills Practice Drill 1. Make a circle with some tees on the ground, you can score how many land in the circle and try to improve each time to make your practice more competitive. 2 . The one hand drill encourages you to release the club through impact and help the club maintain its loft, which will give the ball more height and a softer landing. When first trying this drill make sure there is sufficient grass under the ball and progress to tighter lies as you improve. 17
