Be humble. Singer and song writer Mac Davis’ lyrics,
“Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble, when you’re perfect
in every way….” is just a song. Just words. Humility
praises others first; it deflects praise and recognition
to the people who make things work. ‘Humility’ takes
the task seriously but doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Being humble doesn’t mean being a chump. Humility
seeks feedback and focus on the needs of others.
Humility adm its mistakes. Humility is self-reflective.
Humility lets people do their jobs. Humility is an act
of courtesy.
“Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have
class and be humble. John Madden
Be authentic. Authentic people and leaders are self-
assured and genuine. They’re self-actualized, aware
of their strengths, limitations and emotions.
Authentic people are “comfortable in their own skin”
and aren’t skittish to show their true selves (persona)
to their friends and staff. They follow their own
internal ethical compass and know to be self-
actualized is a process, never complete.
“Authenticity requires vulnerability, transparency
and integrity.” Janet Louise Stephenson
