Finley ’ s relationship with WDC began in 2011 when we worked on the NETPark development in Sedgefield before we were awarded a 300-tonne contract to help construct the Hebburn Community Hub in 2014 .
Since then we have also helped to build the 500-tonne Middlesbrough Sports Village , the 260-tonne UTC Scarborough and the 205-tonne Student Life building for Teesside University in Middlesbrough .
We also recently completed the 350-tonne Feethams House in Darlington and the 140-tonne Ripon Leisure Centre .
More recently , WDC was appointed as the official contractor to build the £ 21m Morpeth Leisure Centre , which is expected to be completed by summer 2022 .
The facility will include a six-lane swimming pool with spectator gallery , a
learner pool , a spa , a four-court sports hall , a new 100 station fitness suite , a dedicated cycling studio , large fitness studios , a café area and soft play .
The plans incorporate a new community services hub that will see the town ’ s library move back to its former home on Gas House Lane .
There will also be a customer service centre and a new adult learning provision with classrooms for STEM lessons and catering .
Northumberland County council leader Glen Sanderson said : “ The new centre will be a real asset for the town and a wonderful place for residents and visitors to enjoy for many years to come .”
WDC awarded Finley ’ s a contract to fabricate and erect 520 tonnes of steel for the project .
WDC also won the main contract on a £ 23m multi-storey car park in Gateshead that will be used by visitors to a £ 260m arena being built nearby .
Groundworks have already started on the Ryder Architecture-designed scheme in the area ’ s Baltic Quarter .
As well as visitors to the 12,500-seat Gateshead Quayside arena , the 1,000-space multi-storey will also be available to guests of a hotel and conference centre also going up at the arena site .
The 10-storey car park will be the 12th project WDC has built for the council following the completion of a £ 13m Riga office development last year , also located in the Baltic Quarter .
Finley Structures have been awarded a contract to fabricate and erect 2,200 tonnes of steel for the car park and started on site in September .
Julie Raistrick added : “ We always love to work on projects in our North East region and it ’ s fantastic to be working with WDC on two projects that will not only change the skyline in their respective towns , but also have long-lasting benefits for the whole of the community .
“ We ’ re delighted to play our part in that .”
