WELCOME

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2017 – and a Happy New Year to all our employees and customers .

Last year was very much a period of

peaks and troughs . We went through a slow period from May to August , which was reflective of the construction industry generally . Since then , however , orders have picked up dramatically – we ’ re due to start work on a number of new projects in 2017 , with a combined total value of £ 6.1m , and since December alone we ’ ve secured a total of £ 8.5m-worth of new projects . It means our order book is looking healthy for the first two quarters of the year , and our forecast turnover figure for 2016-17 is expected to exceed £ 15m .
“ We ’ re due to start work on a number of new projects in 2017 , with a combined total value of £ 6.1m ”
This will be up on our 2015-16 figure of £ 13.5m , but that was down slightly on 2014- 15 mainly due to two high-value contracts – Hitachi Rail Europe and Victoria Gate in Leeds , which were worth £ 8m collectively – which spilled into our 2015-16 figures . The education sector , in particular , has been a significant area of growth for us in recent months . Ironically , it was this sector which really kept us going through the recession post 2008-09 . There are six projects which are either completed , ongoing or due to be on-site imminently . They include Roundhay School in Leeds for Interserve Construction , Ryde Academy on the Isle of Wight for Sir Robert McAlpine , Doncaster Sixth Form College for BAM Construction , George Mitchell School in London for Bowmer and Kirkland , and SEMH School in Seacroft , East Leeds , also for Interserve . In addition , in January , we ’ re due to start work on a 337-tonne project for Bowmer and

Kirkland , to fabricate and erect Krishna Avanti School – Britain ’ s first state-funded Hindu school – in Edgware , London . Going into 2017 we ’ re also due to start working on two biomass projects for Galliford Try Construction – one in Barry and one in Boston – while we have also secured a 1,100-tonne project with Sir Robert McAlpine to work on the new Gates Shopping Centre development in Durham . So it has been a really busy finish to 2016 for the company , with an equally busy start to 2017 , which is very encouraging . In other areas of the business , we ’ ve recently appointed two new members of staff , while two existing employees have gained promotions within the business – see page 3 for more details . We recently raised £ 570 for the BBC Children In Need appeal , a charity we ’ ve supported for a number of years now , and we ’ re delighted with the final amount raised . Finally , we also held a team building day at the ROF 59 activity centre recently . As this picture shows , we had an interesting and enjoyable day !
I hope you enjoy the first Finley Structures newsletter of 2017 – we ’ ll be back in the summer with a new issue , when we expect to have even more positive news on the contracts front to share with you . Julie Raistrick Joint Managing Director
