SLIDE IN TO FUN
A 40-foot-tall wooden slide just might be what some dreams are made of. Built in 1950 by
volunteers from local churches, this big wooden slide has provided hours of low-tech, high-
energy entertainment for kids of all ages for generations.
A Frederick County hidden gem, the Big Slide is central to the park and picnic area at Rocky Ridge
Municipal Park, but is actually owned and maintained by Mt. Tabor Church. Clear signage warns
that everyone who dares scale the structure, climb into one of the provided burlap sacks, then
hurl themselves down the nearly 100-foot long slide, does so at his own risk.
Sign. Us. Up! Adventurous souls are warmly greeted by a cushy pile of sawdust at the end of each
speedy ride.
Don’t let this summer pass without planning a perfectly unplugged play date with a picnic lunch
in a pavilion. Now say that fast five times!
