5
th
Annual
Principal
Meeting
DRAWS A RECORD ATTENDANCE
OF 28 PRINCIPALS
While Assistant University took place, principals from across the
country also gathered for the fifth annual Principal Meeting.
The Principal Advisory Council met all day Wednesday to offer
feedback on Securities America’s current and proposed processes
and share ideas for improvement in our support of supervisory staff.
Wednesday evening, many principals attended the anti-money
laundering class offered to satisfy firm-level CE requirements before
everyone gathered at a nearby restaurant for the conference’s
welcome reception.
Thursday morning, principals joined AU attendees in a joint opening
general session where Kirk Hulett, executive vice president of
strategy and practice management shared a warm welcome, and
Phil Hansen’s keynote presentation encouraged the audience to
embrace the limitations they face.
Many principals described the next
session with FINRA representatives as a
conference highlight. R. Scott DeArmey,
district director of the Kansas City District
Office of FINRA, and Allen Hundley, a
principal regulatory coordinator in the
FINRA Kansas City office, focused
on branch exams, frequent findings,
supervision challenges and material things
in the FINRA rule-making pipeline that
might affect advisors and supervisors.
In other sessions throughout the
conference, representatives from
Securities America’s Compliance and
Supervision departments shared actual
case studies and addressed compliance
requirements for social media, reviewing
new business, risk management and
trade monitor tips.
Principals who weren’t able to attend
this year’s event can find PowerPoint
presentations from the sessions on
Business Center.
