Analysis by Sector
On average, the overtime pay per hour amounted to RM12 as shown in Figure 2.35. Employees within
the Information & Communication, Financial & Insurance/Takaful and Professional, Scientific &
Technical sectors received the highest overtime pay at about RM17 per hour respectively.
Accommodation & Food Services and Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sectors received the least
overtime payment per hour at about RM9 per hour respectively.
Overall, only 5 out of 18 MSIC sectors paid their employees overtime pay per hour that was below the
overall average.

Analysis by Occupational Structure
Across job categories, the high-skilled job categories received an overtime pay range between RM13.10
to RM16.70 per hour (refer to Figure 2.36). Malaysian employees from Service & Sales Workers and
Elementary Occupation job categories received about RM9.00 and RM9.60 respectively. On the other
hand, Foreign employees from the semi-skilled and low-skilled/no-skilled job categories received a
median overtime pay range between RM8.00 to RM9.70. Foreign employees within the Managers
category received the highest overtime payment of RM25.60 per hour.
