National Employment Returns (NER) 2018 1. PROJECT BACKGROUND ILMIA has been conducting Malaysia’s National Employment Returns (NER) since 2007. The survey collects data on employment, salaries and wages of the workforce in Malaysia, employee turnovers, skills shortages, skills deficits and occupations. The survey results serve as a guide in developing a standardised definition of salaries and wages, and its components such as fixed and variable pay as well as allowances. These data would help the government in planning and designing policies that will benefit the human resource development in Malaysia. In addition, the employers, researchers and any relevant stakeholders would be able to use the survey results to assess the overall workforce profile of Malaysians and develop initiatives that would contribute to the growth of human capital in Malaysia. NER 2018 involved establishments encompassing all industrial sectors as per the Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification (MSIC, 2008) and the Malaysian Standard Classification of Occupations (MASCO, 2013). 2. PROJECT OBJECTIVES The study aims: 1. To update the profile of the Malaysian workforce for 2018 2. To provide information on all occupation categories of employees in Malaysia 3. To produce labour market indicators on workers’ pay and benefits, hours of work, education level, types of occupations and employment 7
