The King by Mekhi H. Rhodie
I used to think I was nothing more than a punching bag.
Getting pushed around or called a fag.
But I am more than that.
I'm a PHAT, with a P.H.A.T. (Pretty handsome and tough but not so rough)
That's me.
I am a King. I am King to be.
The way it goes, how it cycles on and on is how I get strong.
It's how I rise above all the haters.
They are my most powerful motivators.
I'm going to admit, it hurt a lot,
To have to deal with parents who always fought.
My eyes stayed the same but my body ached.
They all thought I was sleeping but I was wide awake.
You know I could have cursed a thousand times,
But you know what. I did twice that size, and that's not me.
I am a King. I am a King to be.
You say you know what it feels like to sit in hell.
But you don't. It's like being in a war zone from bell to bell.
I'm lame, I'm cool, I'm cute or a damn fool.
But I've scone to realize the words below really don't matter.
All they're gonna do is make me sadder.
It's the ones on top that shape me into who I am. I am the best and I'm stronger than the rest.
It's no scam, that's me
I am a King. I am a King to be.
But it doesn't end there.
My life will jazz because I'm strumming the bass line and I don't worry about what's behind.
I'll take back what is mine and throw washy what is yours because I'm not on your leash anymore.
I am a King. I am a King to be.
And that's all me.
