CONDUCTOR
One of the unique challenges the trumpet section has is playing many different types of instruments to achieve the appropriate sound. For a lot of our classical programming, we use a set of BSO-owned German rotary-valved trumpets. We have gotten so many compliments because of the special sound they produce. In addition to our standard piston-valved trumpets, we also play cornets, flugelhorns, and piccolo trumpets. It is such a thrill to play trumpet in the BSO because of all the variety in programming. One week I will be gloriously driving to the finale of a symphony, and the next week I will be standing up and making some“ sizzle” for a pops solo!
