Sarah O ’ Brien , who has gone on to work with Apple , Tesla and Facebook at the highest levels , said “ I found out who I was at The BRIT School .” They are talking about confidence , sense of self , self-belief . In a school that encourages people to be themselves , to find their voice , to be original as artists , as thinkers , as storytellers and to be responsible citizens . It is a place that encourages everyone in its community to transform themselves into the best version of themselves and to create a better world .
It is no surprise that at the heart of the school is a Community Arts Practice ( CAP ) course that , in 2022 , is celebrating its tenth year . The CAP course is unique in this country . It works with people who often have little or no voice in the arts world : dementia centres , people with severe learning difficulties , hospices , centres for the eldery . The CAP course goes into those places , and transforms them with the skills , the talents and the love given by those students .
The BRIT School ’ s impact on the world is there for everyone to enjoy . The songs you have heard , films you have seen , West End shows that you have been to , the television you ’ ve enjoyed . So much of it has been shaped by this school in Selhurst , South London , a school free and open for all .
This report helps to shine a bright light on what has been achieved here over the past three decades , as well as setting out our ambitions for the future . So let ’ s celebrate those millions of transformations that have led to an ocean of change . With the continued support of our friends , sponsors , the industry and the decision-makers in this country , it will continue to make a positive transformation to the world we live in .
Always BRIT .
