My time at Jubilee Arts has been great . Coming into this internship I was a little skeptical , as arts is not my thing . I was a little concerned if this match would work or not as I have never been super involved in the arts and am a STEM guy . However , in the first few weeks my initial hesitations were gone . In my first meeting with my supervisor , Nora Howell , I was surprised as how much she valued my time and what I gained from this internship . One of the first questions she asked me was what are my goals and how can Jubilee help me achieve them . Her focus on me was something I did not expect . She really wanted me to gain something from this and she took the time to get to know me and what I wanted . Truth is , I didn ' t even know what I wanted to get out of this in the beginning . But , with every meeting we had , my goals started to take form and within the second week I had a good idea of what I wanted . Every meeting , whether it be staff lunch meetings or our weekly one-to-ones , would start with goals and the progress on them . Well , Nora , those goals have been reached and we are on track ! My personal goal is to basically create meaningful connections and learn about Baltimore and the neighborhood . My professional goal focuses on gaining marketing , sales , and entrepreneurship skills .
I have mainly been working with the Youth in Business program , which gives youth the opportunity to experience the entrepreneurship process by collaborating on creating a t-shirt design and then selling those t-shirts . I have been working on creating the Instagram stories , helping the alumni mentors and their teams , and then some day-to-day work . Through this experience I was able to meet so many fantastic people who are passionate about design and community work . Through staff meetings and discussions , I was able to form meaningful connections and learn more about the design and entrepreneurship process . I have had a great time so far , despite being virtual , and cannot wait to see what the future brings .
