The BRIT Trust is the music industry’ s main charity, and is passionately committed to The BRIT School and to realising the creative potential of its talented and diverse students. Alongside the Department For Education, the Trust makes a significant financial contribution in support of the School’ s groundbreaking work.
The BRIT Trust was set up by the UK’ s record labels and the BPI in 1989, thanks in part to the success of the 1990 Knebworth festival, and in 1991 it partnered with the UK Government to found The BRIT School – the first performing arts school in its time to be free to 14-19 year olds. The BRIT Trust is funded largely by proceeds from The BRIT Awards and the Music Industry Trust Award, and since its creation has distributed more than £ 30 million in grants to a range of charitable causes around the UK, including the School as a major beneficiary, that draw on the power of music and the creative arts to improve lives.
