MINIMAL RANCH
Minimal Ranch is a term used to describe dwellings that display the Ranch style ’ s basic form but are lacking ornamentation and may be of a scale that precludes exaggerated horizontality . Minimal Ranch houses are typically one-story houses lacking in plan complexity , but still display a low-pitched roof and attached garage . Exterior materials are usually conservative such as wood siding or brick veneer . Some examples have a combination of the two . Often , the contrast in materials is the only exterior ornamental device . Defining architectural features of this house type include :
• Horizontally oriented rectangular plans ;
• Slightly low-slung , side-gabled , hipped , or cross-gabled rooflines with slightly overhanging eaves ;
• Minimal ornament ;
• Sheltered entry porch ;
• Attached one-car garage ;
• Wood-frame construction ;
• One-story heights ;
• Low-pitched roof with slightly overhanging eaves ;
• Single-hung windows ; and
• Exterior walls clad with wood siding and / or brick veneer .
The house at 416 Lavender Lane in Southridge Park Subdivision is a Minimal Ranch dwelling with an enclosed attached garage and brick veneer skirting .
