TV shows
that will revamp your
Valentine’s
watchlist

If holiday fanatics can get away with
putting up decorations from as early
as October, then we can get away with
talking about Valentine’s Day as soon
as we hit February. I know Valentine is
a touchy subject for some (if not many)
but come on, do not roll your eyes
at me. It is too early in the year to let
your indifference for Valentine get in
the way of finding something to care
about. Look around, there is probably
a ‘cat’ out there who just wants to
be loved. On a serious note though,
what TV shows are you watching this
February? 1. Selina
It is never too late to start discovering
the best Kenyan TV shows out there to
add to your Valentine’s watchlist. This
industry has come a long way for it
not to be given the credit it deserves.
We are getting there guys, telling the
Kenyan story-one great TV show at a
time. And as we celebrate this month
of love, check out these authentic
Kenyan shows that tackle the subjects
of love and relationships in their own
unique way. Reuben Odanga has done wonders for
the TV industry in Kenya by keeping
the Swahili telenovela genre alive
with shows like Saida and Nira. In
2018, he has unveiled yet another
authentic Swahili love story Selina, a
Cinderella tale that revolves around
Selina (Celestine Gachuhi), a humble
girl from the village who is ‘sold off’
by her evil stepmother to work as
a house maid in the city. Soon she
finds herself caught in a star-crossed
romance with her boss’ son Nelson
played by music-actor Pascal Tokodi.
Selina also features well-known names
like BET Top Actor finalist Alex Khayo,
Abel Amunga (Mali, Sense8) and Kone
Nouhoum (New Beginnings).
2. Because Love
Only recently have Kenyan TV content
creators started exploring the rich
platform that is YouTube, and it is
paying off. From Tony Tini Tone (TTT)
Productions comes Because Love,
