4 TV shows that will revamp your Valentine’s watchlist B y J ennifer O chieng ’ If holiday fanatics can get away with putting up decorations from as early as October, then we can get away with talking about Valentine’s Day as soon as we hit February. I know Valentine is a touchy subject for some (if not many) but come on, do not roll your eyes at me. It is too early in the year to let your indifference for Valentine get in the way of finding something to care about. Look around, there is probably a ‘cat’ out there who just wants to be loved. On a serious note though, what TV shows are you watching this February? 1. Selina It is never too late to start discovering the best Kenyan TV shows out there to add to your Valentine’s watchlist. This industry has come a long way for it not to be given the credit it deserves. We are getting there guys, telling the Kenyan story-one great TV show at a time. And as we celebrate this month of love, check out these authentic Kenyan shows that tackle the subjects of love and relationships in their own unique way. Reuben Odanga has done wonders for the TV industry in Kenya by keeping the Swahili telenovela genre alive with shows like Saida and Nira. In 2018, he has unveiled yet another authentic Swahili love story Selina, a Cinderella tale that revolves around Selina (Celestine Gachuhi), a humble girl from the village who is ‘sold off’ by her evil stepmother to work as a house maid in the city. Soon she finds herself caught in a star-crossed romance with her boss’ son Nelson played by music-actor Pascal Tokodi. Selina also features well-known names like BET Top Actor finalist Alex Khayo, Abel Amunga (Mali, Sense8) and Kone Nouhoum (New Beginnings). 2. Because Love Only recently have Kenyan TV content creators started exploring the rich platform that is YouTube, and it is paying off.
