Pink Revolution male and female can apply for a same job and who ever meets the criteria gets employed . However in many cases it has been observed that males have been preferred over females . The main reason used by employers for this was maternity leaves , females have greater responsibility of family such as upbringing of children etc . According to a survey in 2010 , 68 % females believe that sexual discrimination exists in work place ( Catalyst . org , 2012 ). Over the past decade the percentage of sex discrimination charges reported in eeoc ( Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ) have been frequently stable . In European Union Economic Act sum laws were passed that provide equal rights to women for work with equal salary and paid maternity leaves . With the passage of time as awareness is increasing among people regarding equality of men and women such problems are have reduced alot . As we can see women working along with men in majority of the places . However there are still some roles that are thought to be gender specific such as baby-sitting etc . It is seen that almost all of the taxi drivers are males and we hardly see any female taxi drivers . In my city of Coventry there are only 3 female taxi drivers which is not even 1 percent of total taxi drivers . This shows that women are not willing to work as a taxi driver as we know that women are comfortable with driving cars but they are not in this profession which means that willingness and interest of anybody plays vital role in whatever job they want to do . The past reports show that there have been many issues faced by women . One of them includes sexual harassment in illegal taxis . Such issues have raised questions over female ’ s safety . In order to cope this problem it is planned to introduce a ladies only taxi service with the Birmingham area at initial stage . This is known as ‘ pink revolution ’. Taxi drivers will be the women in this service and

will only serve female passengers . Perhaps this would be helpful in reducing the rapes and sexual assaults . 15 Bright pink vehicles will be on street of Birmingham from September , aiming to increase up to 400 private car hire vehicles by the end of year .

They also have strict ‘ through the door ’ policy . The driver would be bound to wait until the passengers are inside their destination and not leave away unlike other taxi drivers . This would surely attract females as due to the safety the service provides . We can see that discrimination is being reduced at work places as women are also stepping into fields where they never worked before .
