This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of working with children and young people and the importance of the National Care Standards and Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ) Codes of Practice . This course will cover all aspects of children ’ s development , skills , support and understanding , wellbeing and safeguarding . From this course , you can apply for registration as a Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ) professional and go into employment within nurseries , playgroups , after school clubs and other play schemes .
Entry Requirements
You should be 17 years of age or over when applying for the course and should have experience of working with children . You should also possess one of the following :
Two Highers at Grade C or above , including English at A or B .
Foundation Apprenticeship : Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 plus Higher English at Grade A or B .
Foundation Apprenticeship : Social Services : Children and Young People SCQF Level 6 plus Higher English at Grade A or B .
PLUS
SVQ : Social Services ( Children and Young People ) SCQF Level 6 .
Other SCQF Level 6 qualifications and experience of working in childcare will be considered on an individual basis .
If you are considering progression to Higher Education teacher training courses , you should note that you are likely to require two additional Highers , including English at Grade A or B , and National 5 Maths at Grade C or above to be considered by most HE institutions .
You will also require a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland in order to go out on the placement ( s ) as part of this course .

This qualification is suitable for you if you hold a Practitioner qualification as specified by the Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ) such as HNC Childhood Practice or SVQ Social Services : Children & Young People at SCQF Level 7 and have achieved 120 SCQF credits . In addition , part-time learners should be working in , or have access to a placement in the Early Learning and Care sector . Due to the diversity of roles within the sector learners may not be working directly with children but may be in a coordinating role .

Entry Requirements
This qualification is suitable for learners who hold a practitioner qualification as specified by the Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ). and have acquired 120 credit points at SCQF Level 7 , for example HNC : Childhood Practice , prior to undertaking the award .
Part-time students should be working in or have access to a placement in an early learning and childcare setting . ( For full-time learners the College will secure an appropriate work placement experience .)
