If you are looking for an apprenticeship in electrical installation , this preapprenticeship course will give you an introduction to electrical installation and will help you develop the skills to progress to that next step .
The course is delivered over one year and gives you the opportunity to take part in a work placement activity over approximately three 3-week periods with an electrical installation company .
Entry Requirements
Evidence of good attendance and timekeeping from school , college or the workplace is necessary , as is one of the following :
Two National 5s at Grade C or above in Maths and English plus two National 4s
Certificate : Construction Futures
Successful completion of an engineering course at SCQF Level 4
Relevant industry experience and / or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis , and you will be required to pass a preentry test

National Certificate : Engineering Practice

This is a mainly practical course aimed to improve your career prospects within mechanical , manufacture or systems related areas within engineering . It follows an SQA SCQF Level 5 Engineering Practice award , providing a thorough grounding in the engineering principles required by people working towards technician level .
Entry Requirements
One of the following :
PLUS
Three National 4s which must include Maths , English , and Technology or a Science-based subject
Certificate : Introduction to Engineering and Technology ( including Automotive Skills ) EAL Level 1 ( with SCQF Level 4 Maths and English )
SVQ : Pro-Engineering SCQF Level 4 ( with SCQF Level 4 Maths and English )
You may be required to take part in an informal conversation as part of the application process . This group / individual conversation may be an information session , a portfolio discussion , or a skills-based exercise

National Certificate : Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering

On this course you will gain a large amount of practical experience in both electrical wiring installation and electronics . You will be introduced to various wiring techniques for installing domestic lighting and socket circuits using sheathed cable . You will also learn how to wire and install industrial conduit systems using single core cable . This course will also introduce you to digital electronics through practical exercises using logic gates .
Entry Requirements
Three National 4 ’ s or equivalent ( see our Qualifications Explained page for details ) which must include Mathematics , English and a Science or Technical subject
Successful completion of the three National 5 Mathematics Units or the two National 5 English Units will also be acceptable if the applicant has achieved these rather than National 4 ’ s in these subjects
In addition , internal applicants will also require a positive Internal Learner Reference ( ILR ).
