Maths is important in everyday life , allowing us to make sense of the world around us and to manage our lives .
Using maths enables us to model real-life situations and make connections and informed predictions . It equips us with the skills we need to interpret and analyse information , simplify and solve problems , and make informed decisions .
This course enables you to select and apply straight forward mathematical skills in a variety of mathematical and real-life situations . You ’ ll interpret , communicate , and manage information in mathematical form and cover all the basic groundwork for starting National 5 : Maths .

Get Ready for National 5 : Maths

Many people find National 5 Maths very demanding , particularly if they have not recently studied Maths , and achieving National 5 Maths in a single academic year can be extremely challenging . This course is specifically designed to address that problem and it is aimed at those candidates who already have a Maths qualification at National 4 level ( or equivalent ), and who want to do National 5 Maths but need a little bit more time to develop their skills and absorb some of the complex concepts introduced in the National 5 Maths course .

This course aims to build upon and extend your existing knowledge of mathematics .
National 5 Maths is a fast paced and very challenging course , and should only be undertaken by applicants who are already secure in their understanding of elementary aspects of algebra and trigonometry .
Entry Requirements
You can only apply for this course if you are not planning to undertake National 5 Maths at another SQA centre ( e . g . at school )
A pass at National 4 Mathematics ( C747 74 )
National 5 Maths ( C747 75 or C847 75 ) at Grade D
These qualifications must have been achieved at the first time of sitting
Entry to the course may also be subject to successful completion of a diagnostic test

Our selection processes will also take into account the breadth of subjects studied previously
Essential Skills required for National 5 Maths which are not covered in the course and you are expected to have competency in are : working with negative numbers , pythagoras , and trigonometry
