This course will provide you with the skills and qualifications required for entry to health and life sciences degrees , as well as professions allied to medicine . Scottish Wider Access Programmes , ( SWAP ) courses , are for adults who have few or no formal qualifications and who have been out of full-time education for at least three years ( five years if you have Highers or an HNC / HND ).
Entry Requirements
Although there are no formal entry requirements for this course , a good general education with some Maths and Communication – ideally two National 4s – would be advantageous
Entry is by informal discussion where you will be asked to demonstrate that you have the relevant life skills to successfully complete the SWAP course
Evidence of life skills may include level of maturity , and experience of skills related to the potential choice of degree subject including paid employment or volunteering and awareness of subject choice
Please note that school leavers can not apply for SWAP courses .

Distance Learning
This part-time evening course provides the opportunity for you to acquire a deeper understanding of cellular processes , physiological mechanisms , communication between organisms , and the biology of populations as they apply to the human species .
Entry Requirements
National 5 Biology at Grade C or above , however entry to the course may also be subject to successful completion of a diagnostic test
Mature students with relevant experience but without formal qualifications are encouraged to apply
A transition course will run one day a week in August 2022 , to help students achieve on this programme

HNC : Applied Sciences

This is an excellent science course which prepares you to progress further in a science career . It is designed to allow you to progress further in education , onto HND : Applied Biological Sciences at Fife College , or to a university degree .
Entry Requirements
One of the following :
One Higher at Grade C or above in Biology , Human Biology , or Chemistry plus four National 5s at Grade C or above to include Biology , Chemistry , and Maths
Foundation Apprenticeship : Scientific Technologies ( Laboratory Skills ) SCQF Level 6 plus four National 5s at Grade C or above to include Biology , Chemistry , and Maths
Foundation Apprenticeship : Food and Drink Technologies SCQF Level 6 plus one Higher at Grade C or above in any Science subject and National 5 Maths at Grade C or above
National Certificate : Applied Sciences SCQF Level 6
Relevant industrial experience and / or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis
