This 14-week course is suitable for people already employed in the industry and who have a minimum of two years ’ experience . You will study a variety of barbering techniques , both traditional and modern , and will be required to bring your own models .

The purpose of this course is to provide you with the knowledge , skills , and understanding necessary to be a junior barber . It is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and has a variety of practical and theoretical units for you to achieve . You will be expected to gather evidence of both the practical skills and underpinning knowledge for each unit you study and create a portfolio of evidence .
Entry Requirements You must be 16 years old
You must have a work placement in a barbershop as part of your course
Three National 4s , preferably including English
National 5 : English for Speakers of Other Languages ( ESOL ) ( where applicable )
You must have a good understanding of the industry

The hairdressing industry is a very inspirational sector and this qualification will provide you with the right balance of knowledge and skills needed to become a trainee hairdresser . In addition to practical skills you will build self-confidence improving interpersonal skills by working directly with clients and highly skilled staff in a realistic working salon environment .
Entry Requirements Year 1
You must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the start of your course . Winter Leavers will be considered with a successful Transition Form . Certain treatments during the course may require parental / guardian consent if you are under 16
You must have manual dexterity , a pleasant manner and a keen interest in and knowledge of the hairdressing industry
Previous work experience would be beneficial and relevant to your application
PLUS one of the following : Three National 4s
National 5 : English for Speakers of Other Languages ( ESOL ) ( where applicable )
Relevant industry experience and / or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis
HAIR , BEAUTY AND MAKE-UP ARTISTRY
Year 2
An internal discussion will be required before progressing to year 2
Progression will depend on attitude , attendance , ability , and achievement in year 1
A work placement is mandatory in year 2 of the course
