Working with young children and helping them learn essential skills for life is very rewarding and worthwhile .
The course is for you if you already have some experience of working with children and / or certificated academic qualifications at SCQF Level 4 or above .
It combines theory and practical experience for working in an Early Years setting , allowing you to develop an awareness and understanding of all aspects of children ’ s growth , development and the importance of play , from birth to 16 years .
Entry Requirements
You must be 16 years of age at the start of the course of study and possess one of the following :
Four National 4s or equivalent ( see our Qualifications Explained page for details ) including English
Certificate : First Steps to a Career in Childcare incorporating National 4 : Early Education and Childcare
Alternative equivalent qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

This short full-time course starting in January will suit you if you already have some experience of working with children and certificated academic qualifications at SCQF Level 4 or above .

It combines theory and practical work experience in an Early Years setting , and will develop awareness and understanding of all aspects of children ’ s growth and development from birth to 16 years .
Entry Requirements
You must be 16 years of age at the start of the course of study and possess one of the following :
PLUS
Five National 5s at Grade C or above including English at Grade A or B
Completion of an SCQF Level 5 course , such as Intermediate Certificate : Childhood Studies with 12 assessed credits including Maths / Numeracy , IT , and Communication at SCQF Level 5
Alternative equivalent qualifications will be considered on an individual basis
You will also require a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland in order to go out on the placement ( s ) as part of this course
