Typical Completed Countertop Configuration Miter Joint 2.3 In most cases, Laminate Tops should over- hang a finished end of a cabinet run by 3/4” and be flush to a cabi- net side at the stove opening. Plan to cut the Laminate Top sections to fin- ish within these constraints after they have been trimmed or “scribed” to any bad wall condi- tions. Side Splash Countertop Cross Section Scribe Stove Opening Appliance Ends No Overhang* Miter Joint Standard End 3/4” Overhang Refridgerator Space * If Heat Deflectors are used in an appliance opening, the countertop will overhang the heat deflector Step 3 Scribe Mark the Laminate Top to the Wall Condition Scribing is the process of tracing a particular wall condition to the edge of a countertop and then cutting the top to the traced line to mimic the wall condition with the cut edge of the top. If done well, this process will minimize or hide any undulations in a wall or out-of-square conditions in a corner where a top will mount. Prepare and place the top parallel to the cabinet faces before scribe marking so that the front of the top will remain parallel to the cabinets when the back of the top is cut to fit the wall. ©2017 PCS Professional Cabinet Solutions.
