1.2 It is essential that the
surface being skinned or edge-
banded is clean and free of dirt,
dust, grease, water or wet paint.
Make sure there are no foreign
objects in the way, that all divots
and gouges are fi lled fl ush and
any bumps or protrusions are
removed.
The surface needs to be very
fl at and free of any high or low
spots. If they are not removed or
fi lled prior to skinning, it is likely
that these imperfections will
transmit through a thin skin and
be visible.

Measure Skin to
Overhang 1/4” on all Sides
2.1 Situations may require special
consideration, but a good rule of thumb is
to pre-cut a skin to be 1/4” larger on each
side of the piece it is to overlay.
Example:
An end of a wall cabinet that is
11-3/4” x 36” will require a skin cut to
12-1/4” x 36-1/2”.
