Field Installation and Service Manual SECTION 1 - INSTALLATION Installing Crown Molding Illustrated Method Sheet 108 Crown Molding is unique from other types of molding and trim since it installs in a manner that projects up and out from a surface. This condition requires increased care from the installer to ensure a quality installation. As with many processes, there may be several different ways to cut and apply molding. We have found that the following methods are the most effi cient for completing a high quality installation of Crown Molding on our cabinets. The Rise of Crown Molding is the dimension that it will cover vertically when installed. Projection is the dimension that Crown Molding will protrude from the face of the location it is installed. Toe Heel Toe Heel Projection (Run) Rise and Projection The installation of Crown Molding is not diffi cult, but requires a vigilant attention to detail and excellent execution. Rise Heel and Toe of a Mitered Cut When molding is cut diagonally, its important to identify the long or short parts of the stick. The part of the cut that is greater than 90 degrees is the Heel.
